Defensible Space

Worker in front of treeCurrently all Lake Tahoe home and land owners are encouraged to apply for a defensible space inspection of their property from the appropriate fire supression district. After the inspection they will be given a permit that requires, in most cases, the removal of trees and shrubs/debri from an area surrounding their home. CRane attached to treeThe Nevada Fire Safe Council currently has existing federal grant funds to help homeowners cover the cost of this required defensible space process. Beginning on May 1, the Nevada Fire Safe Council will be offering a rebate of 50%, up to $1000, to property owners in the Lake Tahoe Basin who have a defensible space inspection from the fire protection district and implement vegetation management recommendations.
